Family routines

Twenty-minute family meeting

A short repeatable agenda for solving practical family issues without a long lecture.

  • 3-5
  • 6-9
  • 10-13
  • 14+

When to use it

Create a predictable place for appreciation, shared decisions and small problem-solving.

Agenda

  • 2 minutes: each person names one good thing.
  • 5 minutes: review one agreement from last time.
  • 8 minutes: solve one issue—define it, hear each view, choose a trial.
  • 3 minutes: assign who does what and when.
  • 2 minutes: choose something enjoyable to do together.

Useful prompts

  • What is happening, without blame?
  • What does each person need?
  • What can we try until next week?

Keep it safe

Adults remain responsible for safety and final decisions. Do not use the meeting to expose, shame or outvote one child.
